Blue Chair Press
Elaine Benjamin created ABC using repetitions of each letter. Many of the innovative patterns are so intricate that they completely obscure the individual letterforms. Each letter is deeply embossed on buff-colored heavy Arches paper, with the fore edges deckled and the other edges torn by hand. The signatures are single pages that were stitched onto book tape.
Artist Elaine Benjamin said: “Blue Chair Press is located in the historic Advocate Press Building in the sunny redwood hamlet of Blue Lake in Humboldt County, California. The large space allows me to embrace more than just the printing and book-making with which I started, and the good vibes from the original business (in a century-old building) remind me to keep things simple (despite the computer and accessories in the back room). Bookmaking is a fantastic combination of art, craft, and text, and is immensely satisfying.”
