Correspondence des Arts II
This large-format book was printed on paper created especially for the edition. The text is in English with Polish translations by Jerzy Jarniewicz and linoleum cuts by Krzystof Wawrzyniak. The presentation of Craig Raine’s poetry, concerned with things of the soul, is done entirely in black and white. Black pages and partial pages interspersed with the text and image remind the reader of a void in both a literal and poetic sense. The partial pages, when turned, hide one version of the poem to concentrate the reader’s attention on the image. The book is wrapped in several layers of board covered with black cloth, requiring the potential reader to keep unfolding it, which evokes the incomprehensibility of the nature of the Holocaust.
